Apparently, the Free Trader just can't haul enough cargo – assuming standard cargo runs and average speculative trading – to ever repay the mortgage. The standard player ships tend to come out poorly. I've read articles in which die-hard Traveller grognards have run economic analyses of the stock ships under the canonical trading rules. This also gives the ship character! You can also make friends with Scouts easier, who will happily reminisce with you in a bar about all the things that can go wrong with an SC! dreadful paint job (peeling, lurid pink, Vargr kill stickers, etc) tends to put off passengers.Įtc, etc. stinky air filters (traditional for an SC!) outdated docking ring means that sometimes you have to EVA, or buy an adaptor ![]() some parts used for repairs aren't really compatible and tend to go wrong. ship has a dodgy past that hasn't necessarily been cleared from old databases. If they do have to make monthly payments on it, you can always make it an old (40+ years?) ship - this would reduce the price and hence the mortgage to something manageable, but also lets you give the ship quirks due to it's age, and these are immediately good goals for the PCs to pursue to try and fix them e.g.: ![]()
